Introduction

The purpose of this exercise was to put myself in a designer’s shoes focusing on Spotify’s desktop app and have an opportunity to make users’ stream more content.

Overview

Spotify is a digital music, podcast, and video streaming Swedish service founded in 2006 by Daniel Elk that gives you access to millions of songs and other content from artists all over the world

Basic functions such as playing music are totally free, but you can also choose to upgrade to Spotify Premium. Either way, you can:

The Spotify desktop app was launched in June 2007 and it has some incredible features such as create a playlist folder, add local files, view songs history, edit playlist cover app, and drag and drop sharing.

Problem statement

This project needed to happen because it’s necessary to define opportunities for improvement in the Spotify desktop app for a certain user enhancing its experience. The goal or the desired outcome is to validate a solution that might help the user and ameliorate its involvement in navigating through the platform.

User & audience

One of the users who shared his experience while using the platform and I really would like to present a proposal that really improves students experience since I feel identified with this case

Alex, a student, wants to find a better focus while he studies.

Through this research, I want to achieve the best possible result according to the needs and fears the user was describing in the table above

Who would use the product?

Spotify is one of the preferred music streaming services, and it can be used for anyone who really enjoys the music and come on who doesn’t?

I’d like to propose the best alternative to raise the quality the users receive while navigating through the whole desktop app and have a great impact on their emotions.

Roles & responsibilities

Since this was an exploration, the main goal for me was to understand who I was designing for and how can I made their experience more delightful or reduce the fiction so the first thing I did was a “list” of opportunities for improvements which I captured in a brainstorm.

Brainstorm

After asking some people I decided to create a mindmap that covers almost all of the brainstorm which I believe is a good idea because some people liked more than one of the list

Sketch

I have chosen the following idea because I believe it captures what a lot of students are searching for on the platform.
